Before Mailing Newsletter Or Sales Letter #1

Before I send a newsletter or sales letter to 50-2,500 friends and acquaintances (my entire network), I show it to about a dozen trusted advisors and ask for their thoughts and ideas.

Most are favorable, some critical. A few friends have completely re-written a letter—and improved it. All their comments help me refine the product until it is sharp and focused. It also keeps them deeply involved and interested in my business. My initial letter is below. The replies are on following pages.

Bernetta,

I am taking a bit of my own medicine by sending out a letter to friends and business acquaintances. This is a slight departure from my past practice, which was simply to send a newsletter. Today's letter asks for advice, ideas, and HELP. It is a bit more direct, and it is exactly the kind of letter I ask job hunters to mail!

I know the letter is longer than one (1) page. I created a one-pager, but it was a bit thin because I am writing on behalf of the entire company (CareerLab).

The audience knows me quite well. They are former clients, consultants and corporate clients I have worked with for years? So I take a slightly more personal tone than I would with complete strangers.

Please tear the letter apart editorially, and let me hear your thoughts.

With many thanks,

:Bill
