Thank You for Gift Certificate

I helped one of my fellow consultants with her career. She offered to pay my usual fee, but I was uncomfortable charging her. I considered the matter a professional courtesy, and only volunteered a few hours of my time. This letter to her—which is a bit gushy—shows the result.
Nancy,

It must have been Wednesday when I received a strange FedEx package from . . . I couldn't figure out who?

Even after opening it, I couldn't figure out exactly what I had. And then it hit me, this was a gift certificate for a fabulous dinner at one of the most wonderful restaurants on the planet. It was a gift for ME.

I rarely receive these kinds of gifts (I'm usually the giver). This just felt so special, and going to Ruth's Chris is so special, I would seldom consider splurging on myself.

Well, this is just fantastic. I'm going to Seattle September 1-8 for my oldest son's wedding, but when I return, I'm going to share the gift with Beverly and plan an extraordinary event. You are truly too wonderful for words, and I love you dearly.

Your good friend,
