Subject: Referral - URGENT

Bill: A member of my YPO [Young Presidents' Organization] group may wish to speak with you Monday if at all possible. He urgently needs some outside perspective on a major systemic human resources issue. The company is ABC Construction and the CEO is John Brenton—a great friend and confidant of mine.

The company is a $250+million revenue firm with more than 100 administrative employees. Historically they have handled all personnel matters with attorneys on an incidental basis. There is not one Human Resources person on staff—not one.  I think he may also need to consider a high 5- to 6-figure HR executive.

Please call John at his office at 303-555-1212. Use my name and YPO and tell the Administrtive Assistant that John is expecting your call. If you cannot offer any perspective on the curent issue, then perhaps you can advise him on the search issues and need for HR once this crisis has past. Of course this is a highly confidential matter and John will have to explain the facts to you...Kyle

Thanks, Kyle.

I'll call him today. And this is exactly the kind of thing we do. I'm working on a similar project for Discount Tires, a 550-store automotive company with $250MM revenues. After we've made a connection, I'll keep you posted on our progress. Many thanks for this referral—and I know John is a good friend of yours, so I'll take good care of him.
