Richard T. Baird

June 23, 20—

Draft of reference statement. Roger, as we discussed, I've put together an outline for a letter of reference from you. Please review it, and let's discuss.

Mr. Baird was employed by Environmental Services, Inc. from August, 20— through December, 20— reporting to me. In January, 20— he was promoted to a controllership position in the Exploration Division. In addition he retained the financial management responsibilities for the Environmental Division during 20— and continued his real estate management responsibilities until his separation in June 20—.

Mr. Baird's position at Environmental Services was Financial Manager, a position that encompassed a broad range of financial and administrative responsibilities. He successfully designed and implemented accounting, administrative and data processing systems and made a significant contribution to the management of the division.

His accomplishments include: a) implementation of an environmental review of capital and operating plans; b) development of an environmental cost analysis system; and c) nondisclosure negotiations with government agencies.

In addition, he profitably disposed of assets and played a significant role in the consolidation of accounting and administrative services--resulting in reduced costs and improved service.

Mr. Baird is an effective manager with an open communication style. He established a good rapport with subordinates, peers, and superiors at the divisional and corporate level. I found him to be a good team player and a reliable professional.

As a result of departmental reorganization and consolidation, a process in which he took an active and positive role, Mr. Baird decided, and I agreed, that the organization's requirements and his career objectives were no longer parallel and his goals could be better achieved in an organization that would more fully utilize his expertise.
